A New York field guide

A little west. A little wonder.

Three waterfront places to watch sunset in NYC, from Chelsea to Tribeca.

Manhattan’s west side gives you a view across the Hudson. These are starting points, not a ranking: the sun moves along the horizon through the year, and buildings or park structures can interrupt a view.

01 / Chelsea · West 24th Street

Pier 64

A raised western end and sloping lawn make this a good place to look out over the Hudson. Walk toward the river for a more open view.

02 / West Village · Christopher Street

Pier 45

A long pier with a broad lawn and seating along the water. A relaxed choice if you want room to settle in before the light changes.

03 / Tribeca · North Moore Street

Pier 26

A waterfront option in lower Manhattan with an ecological landscape. Use the public paths and check the park’s current access notices before setting off.

Choose the one you can reach.

These spots are spread across Manhattan; they won’t all be within 20 minutes of you. Open the forecast, choose your location, then tap “Find a viewing spot” for closer options and estimated travel times.

Before you leave

Check the official park links for access notices, closures and current rules. Give yourself time to walk onto the pier, bring a layer for the river breeze, and stay on public paths. Neither an open map listing nor a sunset forecast guarantees access or a clear view.
